Phoenix Resurrection Preview Reunites [SPOILER] with the X-Men.
by Stephen Gerding in CBR Exclusives.
It appears the the X-Men won’t just welcome back the long-dead Jean Grey in the upcoming Phoenix Resurrection miniseries. CBR’s exclusive look at the first issue reveals a second major reunion may also take place — with the original Wolverine.
Though it’s possible the Wolverine in the preview is merely an illusion, he seems real enough. It also just makes sense for the recently-resurrected Logan to factor into Jean Grey’s return. And while writer Michal Rosenberg doesn’t directly confirm Wolverine’s involvement, he does tease some big surprises.
“Yeah, there’s a lot [of X-Men in the series],” Rosenberg recently told CBR. “And we definitely have some real surprises too. Some folks are going to be real surprised.”
“I think we made a good introduction, but for those long time fans there are going to be some real deep cuts,” the writer added. “A couple of the nods and moments in the book will definitely get the X-Men historians going. I think we made something pretty cool and not at all what people are expecting. And that’s scary as hell, but it’s a real thrill. I can’t wait for people to read it.”

She will return, like a Phoenix from the ashes.

You can read an advance review of the first issue right here, reproduced below. By Joe Glass:
Just so you know, for this review I will be remaining spoiler-free, so don’t expect to learn anything about the actual events of this book. But I will answer the question that many will want to know: is it any good?

X-Men’s Excalibur Team Is Finally Coming Back!
By Nicholas Raymond
Excalibur, an offshoot of the X-Men that had their own series for a decade, is finally reforming after twenty years. Reuniting under their original leader, Captain Britain, the group will appear in X-Men Gold Annual #1. The cover and the synopsis indicates that Captain Britain and his wife, Meggan, have had a child off-panel.
After years of bringing into prominence younger and newer heroes, Marvel promised that the Marvel Legacy relaunch would put a renewed focus on the company’s classic characters. Over the past few weeks, Marvel has announced a number of changes that will help to restore the status quo of the Marvel Universe. Fans of X-Men comics will finally get Jean Grey back, as well as Wolverine and Professor X who were killed a few years ago. Adam Warlock, a key figure in Marvel’s biggest events in the ’90s, will be making a comeback in the pages of Guardians of the Galaxy, and Marvel’s three Avengers titles will be reshuffled under a single series.
Adding to the list of returning characters, Marvel has announced that Excalibur, a team of X-Men characters based in the UK, will reunite in X-Men Gold Annual #1. Written by Marc Guggenheim and Leah Williams, the issue will bring together original team members Captain Britain, Meggan, Nightcrawler, Prestige, and Kitty Pryde, who formed the team in 1988 at a time when the X-Men were thought to be dead. The cover is a recreation of the cover for Excalibur #1. Featured on both covers is an image of Widget, a floating robot head that took the original team on a journey through parallel universes.

After 14 Years, Jean Grey Returns To Marvel Comics
by Mat 'Inferiorego' Elfring
In December, the miniseries Phoenix: Resurrection brings back adult Jean Grey for the first time since her death in New X-Men.
Death isn't forever in comics. In 2003, Jean Grey died during an iconic run on New X-Men by acclaimed writer Grant Morrison. Since then, that version of Grey has been dead, but this December, Grey will return in the five-issue miniseries Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey.
The new story written by Matthew Rosenberg and drawn by Leinil Yu will follow--you guessed it--the resurrection of one of the original five X-Men: "Strange events are no surprise to the X-Men," reads the official synopsis from Marvel. "But when events start occurring that are more specific and stranger than usual, the group is forced to confront the truth: could Jean be alive after all? And how will this Jean Grey deal with a world that is now so different from the one she left years ago?"
The story is still a pretty big mystery at the moment, but the upcoming months in the current X-Men titles should shed some light on what's coming ahead. "This is very cool mystery building to a mind-warping climax," said senior editor Mark Paniccia. "And it has plenty of what you’d expect from an X-Men epic of this magnitude. Action, romance, sacrifice, lots of X-Men, and five great artists."

X-MEN: GOLD - BAD MOJO By Tim Stevens
Blue and Gold mutants join forces in Mojo World for their first crossover!Mojo loves entertainment—and, frankly, he does not care who gets hurt when he decides to have some fun. As the era of Marvel Legacy begins, the madman has his sights set on delighting the denizens of Mojo World with the first team-up between X-MEN: GOLD and X-MEN: BLUE!
Beginning with X-MEN: GOLD #13 on October 4, writer Marc Guggenheim and artist Mike Mayhew tag team with their X-MEN: BLUE counterparts Cullen Bunn and Jorge Molina to return these mutant groups to their full-powered might. And when Sentinels, the Brood, and dark histories cloud the horizon, they’ll need all the help they can get.
We asked Marc Guggenheim how it felt to write the two teams’ opening interactions.
Marvel.com: What made Mojo the best villain for the first crossover between X-MEN GOLD and X-MEN BLUE?
Marc Guggenheim: A couple of things…we haven’t seen Mojo in the pages of an X-MEN book for a while, so he has a Legacy appeal. At this point, he feels like he’s been around long enough to be a literal legacy character, right?

X-Men Gold #9
Story by Marc Guggenheim
Pencils by Ken Lashley
Cover by David Curiel
Letters by Cory Petit
Kitty Pryde has sworn off men named 'Peter.' But when she and her first love - Peter 'Colossus' Rasputin - are caught in dire straits, will she find herself going back on her word?
The Secret Empire has fallen! At least within the pages of Marvel’s X-Men Gold. Kitty Pryde and her team of X-Men made it through the Dark Dimension and emerged on the other side of Marvel’s latest event relatively intact. However, they were immediately given a rude surprise by the government. Congress has introduced a Mutant Deportation act, an anti-Mutant piece of legislation that would potentially strip all mutants of their U.S. citizenship.

COMIC-CON 2017: X-MEN 'MOJO WORLDWIDE' CROSSOVER LEADS TO SOFTBALL AND 'GAME-CHANGING CONSEQUENCES'
Mojo is back and hungry for ratings. BY BLAIR MARNELL
On the final day of Comic-Con International, Marvel’s ResurrXion panel displayed the mutant ability to be light on new and exciting details about upcoming stories. However, Marc Guggenheim did drop a few hints about the "Mojo Worldwide" crossover that will bring the X-Men Blue and X-Men Gold teams together for the first time since their collective relaunches.
Given Guggenheim and co-writer Cullen Bunn’s obvious love of the classic X-Men stories, it seems appropriate that "Mojo Worldwide" will actually begin with the two teams playing softball. That's a tradition that dates back to the Chris Claremont Uncanny X-Men era. From there, Mojo comes to Earth and pits the X-Men against their greatest foes in a desperate bid for ratings. That’s got to be a metaphor for comics in general.
